Applications for the Minnesota Forest Education Grant program are now available for K-12 teachers seeking up to $350 to help fund forest education activities. Deadline for submissions is February 5, 2010.

The program, sponsored by Minnesota Forest Industries, was created to help schools fund classroom projects and activities, including field trips, on topics related to forestry or forest products in Minnesota. Teachers only need to answer a few questions on a simple form to be considered for a grant.

“The health of our forests is important to all Minnesotans,” said Minnesota Forest Industries Executive Vice President Wayne Brandt. “We’re happy to help the many fine educators who teach our children about these topics each year.”

Since the program began in 2005, MFI has distributed nearly $30,000 to teachers and schools around Minnesota.

Teachers may download the application or request one by calling Minnesota Forest Industries, in Duluth at 218-722-5013. Grants will be awarded this spring, at which time grant monies will be sent to the selected recipients.

Minnesota Forest Industries is an association representing the state’s forest product companies. MFI encourages conservation, proper forest management and industry development.
